I'm no medical professional of any stripe, but yeah, that's one of the
tricky parts of diagnoses: the same symptoms can result from any
number of causes and it can be hard to distinguish a relatively benign
infection from something more serious... and sometimes doctors end up
just treating the symptoms because they have no clue what the
underlying cause is.
probably doesn't help that covid19's vulnerable population overlaps
with vulnerable populations for many infectious diseases we typically
don't worry about thanks to modern medicine.
