Glenn,

Your keyboard is probably ok.  But I'd get a powered hub if you can. 
That way you can plug in multiple devices and be safe in the knowledge 
you're not draining too much current from the Pi.

If your keyboard is plugged in to the Pi, how are you using it? 
Connecting with SSH from another PC?
