Hello folks,
I have written a script which will do these things:
* Generate an empty .img file and mount both of the partitions on a
Linux file system.
* Mount both of the partitions of an existing .img file such as the ones
for Raspbian etc.
* Clean up after itself, removing the loop devices, the mount-points etc.
You can specify the size of the desired new .img file, including the
size of partition one, which is FAT32 (the boot partition).
I have been testing it today and one of the things I have done with it is:
* Create a 3.6GB empty .img file and mount the two partitions.
* Mount both partitions of Raspbian Jessie (3.7GB).
* Use rsync to copy all files from the existing Jessie image to my empty
.img file.
In this way I have shrunk the existing Jessie image down by about 0.1GB
and I think it now fits on a 4GB card. It might have fit anyway with
the latest image but the last time I tried it broke 4GB.
If anybody is interested in mucking about with this script I can put it
on github. When I have written a README.
