Thanks for the reply, think since its my first time using a raspberry, I'll
try to download the jessie from the raspberry VI site as I think that comes
with speech already packaged in the download. But if that doesn't work
I'll keep the details from your email and give that a try instead.

Download the original jessie image from the raspberry pi website and
write it to your card. log in as pi/raspberry via ssh and execute the
following commands. BTW if you get stuck, don't hesitate to ask for help
on/off list.
git clone https://github.com/cromarty/ttsprojects.git
cd ttsprojects/raspberry-pi/libilctts/build
sudo ./build.sh
cd ../../piespeakup
sudo ./build.sh
speech will then be heard via the 3.5MM audio jack which is the default.
to change the audio source, edit /etc/default/piespeakup and uncomment
the relevant line in this case, device=hdmi to switch from the 3.5mm
jack to hdmi.

You are correct. You might want to install Jessie though. I think it is
newer.
You might also find the Image will not boot on the new model3. There is
instructions in this forum to resolve this but you will need to SSH into
PI. Of course, it might boot right up. It is kind of a hit and miss kindof

So completely new to both the list and raspberry PI, so please excuse any
completely newbe questions, but here goes, firstly I see on the raspberry
site there is a download for raspbian wheezy with console speech, so if Iwith
load this to an SD card on my PC when I first start up the raspberry pi
that SD card will I have speech straight away so I don't need any sightedthe
assistance to set up? Also I'm assuming I can just plug my earphones into
the 3.5 jak for the sound and don't need to have it wired to a tv or add a
sound card or anything for the sound?
I am thinking about putting kodi (an open source home theatre software) on
the raspberry, has anyone else tried this? I know there is a Kodi screen
reader does this work on the raspberry PI?
