Kevin,
Try selecting the passage, and then:
Press ctrl+shift+e for engraving rules
Tab until you get to a list of items to control. Choose Staves
Tab to each field and type in what you think you might want

How does one alter the distance between staves in a system? I have a grand
staff with some left hand notes cross staffed for the right hand. this
sometimes results in the stem of the note being too short and either
clashing into the beam or something else. How can I alter the distance
between the staves in one system without changing the entire score?
