I think you're right about the pitch range. I wonder if they need their own 
clef nomenclature to make it sound right?

guys,

I've always thought that Double Bass sounds an octave below the written 
pitch in the bass clef.  If this is true, why won't Sibelius play back the 
correct pitch.  It plays back the basses in my scores at concert pitch. I 
almost accidentally transposed a bunch of bass parts an octave lower than I 
want them to sound.  Is there any way I can go to the playback dictionary 
and fix this?
