I think we have finalized the lineup for Friday 8 Nov 2019 (see below).
Hopefully, I haven’t given short shrift to anyone. If I have, it certainly was
not intentional. This should be a very good outing on a fine course with good
friends. Details:
1. Green Fees: Age 55 and above $62, Ret Mil $62, under 55 $72, Range
Balls $5 per bucket.
2. $15 per player prize fund contribution. The game is “2 3s + 2 5s + 5
4s.” 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place low net prizes. Other competitions:
a. Longest Drive Hole 5 (Ranch 5)
b. Longest Putt Hole 9 (Ranch 9)
c. Closest to the Pin Hole 16 (Vineyard 7)
3. Gar’s Famous Swag Bags for all—what a deal!
4. First tee time is 0812.
5. We are playing Ranch-Vineyard. Both courses are completely healed from
aeration and in great shape. George has been playing them and says they are
really good.
6. The Steele Canyon Restaurant doesn’t open until 1000, so let’s plan on
0630 at Denny’s Diner in the Town and Country Shopping Center Near the turn to
Willow Glen Road. Lunch gathering in the Steele Canyon restaurant after the
round if you can stick around.
7. Blue SOGAGG shirts. George encourages us to wear Remember Everyone
Deployed (RED) to support our Troops. That would suggest Red SOGAGG hats at
your discretion.
8. Game scorecards and course guides will be provided for each group.
9. Game explanation: “2 3's, 2 5's, & 5 4's” is a variant of Individual
Stroke Play. This modification follows the rules of individual stroke play
supporting posting of an 18-hole score. However, for the competition each
player’s net total strokes score is adjusted by selecting the lowest 2 scores
on par 3's, the lowest two scores on par 5's, and the lowest 5 scores on par
4's, then subtracting one-half of the player's course handicap. The fewest
resulting net total strokes (could be 35.5, e.g.) determine the winner and
other standings. It’s not as complicated as it seems—play the round, then use
the appropriate line on the scorecard to record the “2 3's, 2 5's, & 5 4's”
score. Have a look at the attached scorecard to see how it works.
