The time is nigh for Mountain High III on Friday, July 31 at Mount Woodson
Golf Course…! We have three foursomes locked and loaded with the first tee
time at 0942. This hosted day for the Society consists of:
The round of golf (no check-in required)
A hearty breakfast (starting around 0830-0845 or whenever you can make it)
Drinks and snacks at the turn
Lunch

(Bring $15 for prize money and a couple of bucks for other games.
Just for fun, the 12 players are grouped in four flights based on handicap
indexes and will play from the Blue (2), White (6), Gold (2), or Red (1)
tees. All foursomes are playing the same game for honors and prize $, while
each foursome plays a different game to add a bit more revelry during the
round.

Keep your eyes peeled for the four course proximity contests (Longest Putt on
3; Closest-to-the-pin on 6 & 16; and Longest Drive on 12).
The three foursomes will compete against each other for prize money. Each
player will contribute $15 to the pot, yielding a pot of $15x12= $180. The
pot will be awarded as:
· 1st $80 ($20 per player)
· 2nd $40 ($10 per player)
· 3rd $20 ($5 per player)
· Each of 4 proximity contest winners: $10.
With thanks to Rules and sHank: The competition for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
will be the team game of “Best 2 of 4.” That is, the lowest 2 net scores of
each foursome’s 4 net scores will be recorded and summed for the team’s
score. Lowest team score wins.
In addition, each foursome will compete internally, each playing a different
game as follows: See the definitions below:
Team 1: Net Skins. $5 each player for the pot. (Usually, we don’t do “net”
skins, but it should work for one foursome.)
Team 2: Four Ball. $1 Front Nine, $1 Back Nine, & $1 18 holes for the pot.
Team 3: Match Play. $1 Front Nine, $1 Back Nine, & $1 18 holes for the
pot.
Skins definition: Holes one through 16 are assigned one skin each. Holes 17
and 18 are assigned two skins each, for a total of 20 skins. Each player
contributes $5 for the pot.
Toss a coin to determine who tees off first. Each player tees off in turn,
and normal stroke play continues until each player holes out. The player
with the lowest score on the first hole wins the skin for that hole. If
there is no lowest player – because two or more of the golfers are tied for
the lowest score on the hole – the skin is rolled over to the next hole. Tee
off and play the next hole and continue through the remaining holes until the
round is finished. Keep track of who wins the skins for each hole as you
play. Total the number of skins. If the total number of skins won is less
than 20, conduct a closest-to-the-hole putting contest from about 40 feet.
The winner of the putting contest wins the remaining skins. Award each
player $1.00 from the pot for each skin won.
Four Ball Definition: So how does scorekeeping work in a four ball match?
We'll call our two teams White Team, consisting of Golfers A and B
(partners); and Green Team, consisting of Golfers C and D (partners).
On the first hole, all four golfers tee off, and all four golfers in the
match play their own golf balls until holed. The partners compare NET scores:
Which of them made the better score on the hole? If Golfer A scores net 4
and Golfer B scores net 6 on the first hole, then White Team’s score on that
hole is 4. If Green Team gets a net 3 from Golfer C and a net 6 from Golfer
D, the Green Team's score is 3. And Green Team, in this example, has the
lowest score on the first hole, 3 to 4. Play continues and after 18 holes,
the team with the overall lowest score is the winning team. If the teams are
tied after 18 holes, the game ends with a tie.
Match Play Definition: So how does scorekeeping work in a match? We'll call
our two teams Green Team, consisting of Golfers A and C; and White Team,
consisting of Golfers B and D. Golfer A (Green Team) competes against Golfer
B (White Team) while Golfer C (Green Team) competes against Golfer D (White
Team).
On the first hole, all four golfers tee off, and all four golfers in the
