From Robert Loveday: This morning I dropped by the marsh area on Bear Creek Rd. below the Hwy 58 bridge, & saw 4 brown-headed nuthatches working 2 side-by-side trees on the left side of the marsh. I initially saw a bhnu pair on the right side that flew over the gravel road to join another pair. A downy woodpecker flew in & would have landed on one of them, if the bhnu hadn?t veered off at the last second. It?s interesting to note, that after I posted 5/28 about a brown-headed nuthatch excavating a cavity of a dead pine tree at this marsh , I had not seen one since on 7 more visits (Kelly Roy spotted bhnu there on 5/29). Also seen in this same area over the past week: Prothonotary warbler, pair of Black-crowned night herons, Green heron, Osprey, Red-headed woodpecker, Common yellowthroats, Eastern Wood Peewees, Yellow breasted chat. On my companies (Duratek) private fenced property line just off Bear Creek Rd, I saw a pair of Kentucky warblers chasing each other on 6/12, & have seen a single Kentucky warbler 3 times since. They have been seen in a 30 yard stretch of woods near a creek. Per the attached link (a2z for birders online guide, an excellent web site, particularly for warblers: http://www.a2z4birders.com/cgi-bin/birds?F=S&S=kewa&C=PFG ) there doesn?t seem to be a high count for the Kentucky warbler breeding in our area. So I will try to keep on an eye on these elusive birds, although the chigger bites are starting to get the better of me. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
