We usually think of August as sort of a "dead" month, but this year was
different as we had 64 yard birds and 14 of those were warblers. This
morning we had 37 birds in the yard and 9 of those were warblers. A
Chestnut-sided and Northern Parula stayed together catching worms in the
trees beside the deck for a couple of hours and were almost as beautiful as
the Golden-winged and Worm-eating that brought delight to our eyes. A
Yellow-throated Warbler wanted a bath so badly that even after the Cardinals
chased it away a dozen times or more, it persisted and bathed several times
to its' and our delight. The Black and White, American Redstart,
Black-throated Green and several Tennessee Warblers completed the warbler
pleasure for the morning. Baltimore Orioles were spectacular with 10; 2
mature males and 8 immatures and females. Lots of Summer and Scarlet female
Tanagers but only one male. There was a Yellow-bill Cuckoo today after not
having one the entire month of August.
