I heard someone say the other day that the next federal duck stamp should have an IVORY-BILLED WOODPECKER on it ;-) This would celebrate what duck hunters have done in their efforts to save habitat for the great woodpecker. The competition for artists would be limited to the best painting of the woodpecker. What a fantastic suggestion ! That way, we could double the effort and millions of people could buy the "Woodpecker Stamp" to help preserve habitat for waterfowl. Duck hunters could continue to buy the woodpecker stamp to help preserve habitat for the woodpecker. Maybe the term "duck stamp" has gone out of style ! Congress should have a hearing. Should it be renamed "Bird Stamp" ? It has also been suggested that anyone going into the habitat for any reason, whether logging, hunting, picnics, fishing, scientific research, boating, photography, sightseeing, guide services buying habitat, eco tourism or birding should be required to purchase a special federal IVORY-BILLED WOODPECKER PERMIT. The money should go into a public fund to educate school children about duck hunting and looking for the woodpecker. Let's go birding......
