In response to Wallace's request for specific "jobs well done", I'd like to broadcast to everyone online (I've already done this directly to these folks) the list of folks who worked for months to put on "An Evening for the Birds". I have to start with committee member Troy Ettel. It was Troy who came to the Chattanooga Chapter with the idea for another fundraiser. Troy was our inspiration and motivation through it all. A short list of Troy's contributions was to solicit Kenn Kaufman and Choogie Kingfisher; to coordinate our plans with TWRA; and finally, to serve as emcee. I am thankful for the bond that continues to grow between TOS and TWRA and I credit Troy for that. Barbara McMahan was in charge of desserts donated from area restaurants. She coordinated everyone's solicitation, but her biggest challenge came Friday night when she was in charge of receiving, arranging, slicing, serving and overseeing all of those beautiful dessert tables. Barbara is remarkably organized! Kevin Calhoon was in charge of sponsors and he hit the phones early to get folks to donate. Of course Kevin sold lots of tickets, solicited lots of desserts and helped to set up and brake down the whole event. Clyde Blum was responsible for ticket sales. He and his wife, Claire, even let us take over their home answering machine for a few weeks to receive all of those out of town requests for tickets. Joel Keebler started out being in charge of listserv exposure, but he didn't stop there. He worked hard to get our press releases out to every publication he could think of. Joel was another one who was there to the very end doing whatever it took to get the job done. Bonnie Johnson was responsible for coordinating all those yummy desserts cooked with love from our club members. Not to stop there, she also baked 10 desserts herself and still had the time to exhibit her family business as a sponsor. David Aborn did an outstanding job of representing us on television and also soliciting, collecting and organizing all of our silent auction items. Chris Mahoney was our constant source of level headedness. Chris did it all: dessert solicitation, silent auction items, even getting the local cable company to use time that would have otherwise been used to promote her business, to promote our event. Some folks not on the committee, but who deserve a mention, are Sandy Wilson and Bobbi Aborn. These women served as our cashiers, which is no easy task. They did it with a cool head and a quick calculator. Danny Gaddy brought some of his students from the Chattanooga Middle Museum Magnet School to serve as ticket takers, servers, etc. They were really appreciated! My job was venue logistics and local publicity, but mostly keeping everyone focused on the agenda at committee meetings. You know how it is when you get birders together, they seem to want to talk about birds. Obviously, it takes a lot of energy and commitment to organize any event and this committee had plenty of both. We had a lot of fun, raised a lot of money and were so pleased that so many of you came out to support our causes at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. If you didn't make it this year, you missed a good time. But stay tuned, what we're already talking about for next year, just might be bigger and even more fun. We'll let you know as soon as we formulate our plans so you can mark you calendar. Thanks for this opportunity to show my gratitude. I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time.
