Not that a Bald Eagle nest is that newsy anymore, but finding yet another one
in Sevierville, TN on the Middle Prong of the Little Pigeon River, near a very
busy and raucous highway and market, does attest to the tolerance, resiliency,
and wonderful success of these birds return to Tennessee.
The nest is behind Weigel's Market at the intersection of Hwys 411 and 416 on
the river, not easy to see, but it's there, and late today, one adult was
sitting in the nest. All property around the nest is private and there is no
access to get great views that I have found. My wife and I observed the nest
from Robert Henderson Road, from where we spotted it, but it's a road with
little or no pulloff, and dangerous to stop and were a long way off - over 400
yards; we were lucky enough to have little traffic to snap a few photos, which
are on Facebook - Birds and Birding in Sevier County, East Tennessee Birding,
and Tennessee Birding (I still can't get this listserv to accept my photo
attachments).
Another curious note about this nest it that is located in an abandoned Great
Blue Heron rookery and just downstream from an active Great Blue Heron rookery.
Wonder if the eagles enhanced an old Great Blue Heron platform for the nest.
