Despite the weather, I spent this morning at two Metro Parks here in Nashville (Davidson Co.). From 7:15 AM to 9:30 AM I worked the Henry Hollow Loop at Beaman Park. From 10:00 AM to noon, I birded the main loop at Bell's Bend Park. For the morning, I found 79 species without really trying. I was surprised when I tallied things up and noticed that I'd found 21 species of warbler. The most interesting thing (to me anyway) was an apparent Blue-winged Warbler singing an atypical song. I heard it singing "bee-bee-buzz" and had to track it down; I was truly expecting a hybrid, but phenotypically it seemed to be a normal Blue-wing. I suspect, though, that it has some Golden-wing in it somewhere. Beaman was loaded with woodland species per usual. I cannot imagine a better place for seeing Worm-eating Warblers and Scarlet Tanagers, among others; I had repeated great looks at both without any special effort. On the other hand, Bell's Band was loaded with grassland and early successional species, although the trees along the river had a decent number of warblers.
