Trying to get take advantage of light snow and hopeful waterfowl, we set
out for a short bird outing this morning.
Bedford lake offered neither waterfowl nor a GBH...did have some yellow
rumped warblers and dark eyed juncos in cedar thicket. However, on our
return from Bedford Lake turning left onto Red Hill Rd...a field to our
right near a power line tower treated us to a pasture full of *American
Pipits! *It was ~ 8:45 a.m.
These Pipits bobbed their tails and gave us great looks... unless I was
trying to snap a picture. Will ebird it soon but wanted to let any know if
interested. We probably had some yesterday as well in another field on
Haley/ Cannon Rd but could not stop for time constraints. These flew like
these and appeared to be different than our usuals.
Last unusual "our of the blue" was an immature bald eagle following the
easement on our ridge. At the lake is on occasion but over our ridge is
unique. It may be the first or very few sighted here on Rippy Ridge.
Normandy dam had 1 loon, some pied billed grebes, horned grebes scattered,
1 loon, 7 hooded mergansers, and a kingfisher. Again, not much in ducks or
other water birds variety.
Temp 27°F overcast and very light snow to a dusting only in other areas.
Wind on occasion and was quite brisk.
