Bells Bend Park

I went to Bells Bend Park this morning to search for sparrows and wrens
but found only the more common species. However, as soon as I got out of
my car in the parking lot, I noticed two low flying raptors. For the
next 7-8 minutes I stood transfixed as I was treated to an acrobatic
display of 2 MERLINs chasing each other. They would swoop low over
the trees and then rapidly accelerate out of sight only to return a
few seconds later. At times one of them would alight in one of the
large trees in the parking lot, and a flock of perhaps 6-7 BLUEJAYs
would swarm them and begin to chase them as the MERLIN took off.
To say the least, it was no contest as the MERLIN quickly left
the BLUEJAYs in its wake.
