Bells Bend, Davidson Co., TN 2014 September 3 7:00 -- 7:35am partly cloudy With the rains from last evening soaking the ground, I detoured from my usual route to work to check out the Bells Bend sod farm near the Cumberland River. On the main sod area next to the sod farm buildings there was still some standing water from the accumulated rains. There were about 2 dozen LEAST SANDPIPERs, 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, and 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERs working the area while I was there. Best find was a single AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER in nearly complete breeding plumage. It was feeding in the big field in the higher grass at about the midpoint in the field. I suspect that the mix of shorebirds will change with time today, so other species might show up later this morning.
