Black Bayou Waterfowl Refuge
I went to check and see if The Bell's was back and sure enough, first thing ,
we heard it. Walked in and saw movement but had to leave, the deer flies and
black flies were more than I could handle. Will wear long sleeves now. As I
got to the road to walk in over the culvert to get back to the levee that runs
back behind the pump house I ran into Cathy Holder from Memphis, we birded a
few minutes in the wet area to the right and there were Pectoral S.P. , Least
S.P. 1 Dowitcher sp., Lessor Yellowlegs and in the water off the levee to the
right that is the back side of the water you see from the road we also found
two Semi palmated Plovers. There is still a lot of water in the ditch but
there is a shallow area that is muddy that you can cross over into the field on
the left of the levee to go back to the trees on the left edge of the field
where the Bells is found. Same place as it has been for the last three years.
Mississippi Kites were sited and Cathy got a great look up close and was able
to see the field marks well.
