Nov. 5, 2011 Benwood lake - AR Mississippi RV, TN Another trip to Benwood produced a small sparrow that gave me a start and good looks but it needs to be nailed, tomorrow might hold a reward. Totals on some species at Benwood; 8 GOLDEN-PLOVERS (one still in almost complete breeding plumage), 2 Black-bellied Plovers, 30 Avocets, 52 Greater Yellowlegs, Killdeer, Lesser Yellowlegs, Least ++, Pectoral, Dunlin+++, Stilt, L-b Dowitchers++++ and Wilson's Snipe, Greater White-fronted++++++, 128 Snow Geese, 22 Blue, 16 Ross's and a hybrid White-front/ Blue Goose. In the morning the Mississippi River was completely fogged in but two hours this afternoon produced; 2 Forster's Terns, 3 Ring-billed Gulls, 16 P-b Grebe, 6 HORNED GREBE, 220 American Coots, Lesser Scaup, Shoverlers, Gadwall, Ruddy Ducks, 4 SURF SCOTERS, and 1 BLACK SCOTER swimming with 5 male REDHEADS plus 1 Common Loon.
