Bewick's Wren is present at a classic site in Rutherford County after an absence of several years at this location. The birds are becoming much less common in this area, the population decline parallels that of Loggerhead Shrike, and is just as mystifying. A singing bird was seen today at 5512 Lytle Creek Road. (DeLorme page 38) Follow Dilton Mankin Road from US 41 south of Murfreesboro, and turn right at the T on Lytle Creek Road; at the top of a hill, you will come to a collection of houses and outbuildings. The residents have been very gracious in the past, and will be happy to accomodate visitors, just let them know what you are there for. The birds can usually be seen from the road; if not singing, tape might stimulate a response. They tend to sing all day long, and should be easy to see for the next month or so Interestingly enough, there is also a pair of L Shrikes nesting in the same general area Terry Witt Murfreesboro Tn =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
