I stopped by Lake Tansi to see if the cold front had brought anything good in and encountered more birds than I'd ever seen there-it looked like a national wildlife refuge. The numbers below are mostly estimates (and likely on the low side), and because of the wind and heat waves I wasn't able to find or identify every individual. Now would be a great time to check your favorite lake! Lake Tansi, Cumberland, US-TN Nov 17, 2011 9:45 AM - 10:45 AM Protocol: Traveling 12.0 mile(s) Comments: Lake Tansi beach & marina, Fisherman's Point, Arrowhead Drive, Lake Hiawatha plus along nearby roads. Clear, 10-15 mph wind, 40 degrees F. A strong cold front came through last night (warm and rainy previously). More waterbirds than I've ever seen on Lake Tansi due to very large flock of Redheads, large influx of Horned Grebes (none found yesterday), large numbers of L. Scaup, and increased numbers of coots and Buffleheads. More dabbling ducks on Lake Tansi than typically found. Species and numbers at Lake Hiawatha were similar to that seen yesterday before the front came in. 34 species Canada Goose 40 Mute Swan 1 Usual adult seen in cove along Arrowhead Dr. Wood Duck 3 In pond along Leffle Webb Rd.
