In the past few weeks I spent so much time calculating how much I needed to
“render unto Caesar” (Matthew 22:15-21) that I haven’t updated sightings of
first-of-the-year birds seen at my home in Birchwood (Hamilton County) or in
other nearby areas, all in Hamilton County, except as noted below. These April
FOY observations follow.
* 4/8 – Barn Swallow - Meadowview Road, Georgetown
* 4/8 – Eastern Kingbird – Georgetown (Highway 60, just north of Highway 58)
* 4/8 – Green Heron – Birchwood (Highway 60, about 3 miles north of Highway
58)
* 4/8 – White-eyed Vireo – home
* 4/16 – Wood Thrush (actually heard in March, but date not noted) – home
* 4/16 – Great-Crested Flycatcher – home
* 4/17 – Eastern Whip-poor-will – home
* 4/17 – Rose-breasted Grosbeak – home
* 4/19 – Blue Grosbeak – home
4/19 - Northern Rough-winged Swallow – Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge (Meigs County)
