Below are some highlights from a survey I conducted yesterday. The most
interesting sighting was watching a pair of Belted Kingfishers excavating a
burrow in a bank...something I’ve never seen. I stayed a great distance away so
as not to disturb. I’ll go back to check for any nesting results (hopefully!).
I was a little surprised to see so many rootlets along the bank and above the
entrance...was expecting a smooth bank free of vegetation.
American Bittern 1 FOS (first of season), calling
Osprey 1 FOS
Bald Eagle 1, immature
Belted Kingfisher 2, excavating burrow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 1 FOS
Tree Swallow 1 FOS
Winter Wren 4, different locations, all singing
Louisiana Waterthrush 1 FOS
Purple Finch 2, both singing
