Humphreys County, 4-8-18

After meeting Victor Stoll in Perry County this morning, who graciously led
me to a previously reported American Bittern in the Lobelville area, I went
over to the Duck River Unit WMA for a couple of hours. I was able to
relocate the reported (early) Black-bellied Plover, which was in the nearby
company of 3 American Golden Plovers - slightly, but noticeably smaller
than the Black-bellied, with noticeably more tannish-brown overall
coloration, distinct capped appearance, and lacking the Black-bellied
Plover's pale white undertail covert area.

Also present were a small flock of Least Sandpipers and a large amount of
both Yellowlegs, but no other shorebirds were identified. Hundreds of
American White Pelicans were on the refuge, and probably more than 100
Great Egrets as well. I counted 7 Forster's Terns, busily diving for food
in pool #6.
