Dear all, I am attaching a link to my current blog post that shows some delightful images of a sandhill crane chick's early attempts to join his parent in a dance. http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/2013/07/sandhill-crane-hunting-in-tennessee.html The blog post also speaks to the issue of the current proposal to start a sandhill crane season in Tennessee. I encourage each of you to engage our Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commissioners and Director Ed Carter in conversation by phone and by email regarding the importance of managing Tennessee's migrating sandhill cranes as a celebrated and revered watchable wildlife species. History has shown us the good-will that celebrating cranes generates for our state. More than 7500 visitors were recorded at the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge from November 23, 2012 to February 22, 2013--visitors from 47 states and 15 countries--all visiting for the purpose of viewing the spectacle of staging sandhill cranes, endangered whooping cranes and our unusual visitor, the hooded crane. Creating a hunting season will substantially change not only the species staging dynamics, but the enjoyment and good-will of all the people who come to celebrate these species. You will find links with information at the end of the blog post. The Take Action Now link will take you to all the names, phone numbers and addresses.
