Two Cattle Egrets were roosting with the GBHEs at 7:30 tonight at the Roy
Phelps pond, a bit south of the stilt pond on Old Lowes Ferry Rd in
Louisville. It was lovely to see them in breeding plumage for the first
time. Also at this pond were Cliff Swallows (buffy rump patch), No.
Rough-Winged Swallows, Killdeer, Lesser(?) Yellow-legs (judging by
comparison with Killdeer), and Wood Thrush.
I did NOT see any stilts, either in the Phelps pond or the stilt pond. Of
interest in the latter were two male wood ducks. There were also some peeps
and a female duck (Mallard? Not Woody) schooling some ducklings on how to
keep together.
