Thanks to the hospitality of Stacey and Steve Adair, several people saw a
Roseate Spoonbill in Maryville, Blount County, Saturday evening. Stacey
said that birders will be welcome to visit Sunday morning without
telephoning first. The address is 2725 Stephens Road. You are asked to
drive into the driveway and park on the grass. Do not park on the
driveway. Walk to the backyard between the house and the barn and find a
gap through the fence. Walk toward the pasture, angling right and find a
gap through the next fence near a bluebird house. Walk up the pasture to
the high part of the hill. Don't walk farther in order to not spook the
bird. There are two ponds. One is large and one is very small. The bird
fed in both ponds this evening. For a few minutes it moved out of sight
behind some trees. It seemed to be settling for the night when we left at
9:00.
We appreciate the Adairs posting their bird on TN-Bird for the opportunity
to see a rare Blount County bird.
