I have been seeing a female Ruddy duck on a pond along the road into Kyker Bottom Wildlife Management Area in Blount County since 2/19. The pond is on the right side of the road past the first curve after turning off US 129, and before the first house on the right. I didn't hear any Woodcock at Kyker this evening but the Great horned owls were very active with at least 4 calling from across the ponds below the maintenance barn. I observed an owl circling above and then diving around the side of the maintenance barn. I couldn't tell if it was a Barn owl as it seemed too dark for a one so it was probably a GHOwl.
