Did some birding in Blount County, Tenn. this past Saturday. At the Whites Mill Wildlife Refuge I walked around the dikes one time and did not find the Bittern. I did see a beautiful male Blue Winged Teal at pretty close range, both on the water and in flight. At a boat ramp on Route 129 (opposite a Fast Lap) (it's the 2nd boat ramp traveling south on 129 from Monroe County I think) was a breeding plumaged Common Loon (it's head and neck area had not completely molted into breeding plumage). Watched it dive for a while until a passing boat made it move farther to the north though still in range.
