In January and March I observed a Great egret with orange tags on each wing from the Miser Station Bridge off Louisville Road in Blount County.. I finally was able to read the number and reported it to folks in Ontario and New York who tagged the birds. Our bird #10 D was banded at Nottawasaga Island, near Collingwood, Ontario, about a 1.5 hr drive north of Toronto on June 24, 2011. It was a flightless young bird that was picked from its nest, tagged it and returned to its nest. They had two reports of wing-tagged egrets from Tennessee but this was the first with a number. If anybody sees a Great egret with orange wing tags they should report it to Chip Weseloh at chip.weseloh@xxxxxxxx or Connie Adams at CMADAMS@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx They will be using green wing tags in 2011.
