Yes, this is a Blue Grosbeak nest with 2 grosbeak eggs and 1 cowbird egg. The most common grosbeak clutch is 4 eggs, so it is possible that either the cowbird threw out a grosbeak egg or 2 when she laid her eggs, or the grosbeak was still laying. There are not very many Blue Grosbeak nest records from Tennessee, and at the time I compiled the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Tennessee, I could only find 2 records of cowbirds parasitizing Blue Grosbeaks. Could you please send me the date of this photo and, if different, the date you first observed the nest? And if you have the opportunity to check on the nest every 2 or 3 days, the dates the eggs hatch, number of nestlings, fledgling dates, etc. And once the birds are through nesting, a measurement of the height of the nest above ground. All of this information will help increase our knowledge of this bird in Tennessee.
