On Wednesday morning, March 27, from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., Bryan Stevens (Hampton,
TN) and H.P. Langridge (Elizabethton, TN) tried to re-locate the
Yellow-throated Warbler found by Langridge and Glen Eller (Galax, Va.) on
Monday at the Horseshoe Church at Wilbur Lake in Carter County, near
Elizabethton, TN.

They found almost everything except the Yellow-throated Warbler.

They followed a large flock of songbirds along the ridge behind the church:
Solitary Vireo
Pine Warbler (2 or 3, [maybe more, based on singing] and including one very
spiffy looking male in bright spring plumage)
Winter Wren
Brown Creeper
Yellow-rumped Warblers
Golden-crowned Kinglets
Ruby-crowned Kinglets
Carolina Chickadees
Eastern Screech Owl
Eastern Towhee
Pileated Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
White-throated Sparrow
Carolina Wrens
Phoebe
Red-breasted Nuthatch
White-breasted Nuthatch
Common Crow
Blue Jay
Turkey Vulture
Mourning Dove
Rock Dove
Tufted Titmouse
Belted Kingfisher

On Wilbur Lake:
Buffleheads
Greater Scaup (one hen)
Lesser Scaup (three drakes, one hen)
Canada Geese
Mallards

On Watauga River to Wilbur:
4 Black Ducks
Mallards

Yesterday, we had, in addition to Mallards and Black Ducks, five Hooded
Mergansers, three Blue-winged Teal, a Ring-necked Duck and a Pied-bill Grebe

From road along Watauga River and near Elizabethton Airport:
Eastern Meadowlark
Eastern Bluebird
American Robin
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle
Northern Mockingbird
Starling
Northern Cardinal
Song Sparrows (one without any tail feathers)

Lot of birds on the move!

Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
