Shelby Co, TN

There are at least 18 Cackling Geese hanging out in with the hordes of
Canada Geese at Shelby Farms in Memphis. Also there is a smaller Canada Goose
that
was banded 2 years ago in Shelby Co.

This past August, I spotted a very special Pectoral Sandpiper, I did not
know how special till today. I found the bird on August 26, 2008 as it dropped
in with a few other Pectorals to feed and rest. After reporting the colored
band sequence, I finally got a full report on the bird today, "she" had been
banded just two months before near Barrow Alaska while she sat on a clutch of 4

eggs. She is very special considering over the past few years, they had
banded 404 females and 551 males in their study on Pectoral breeding ecology
and
she is the first ever sighted away from the breeding grounds! She is welcome
back anytime.........
