TVA Lake
Shelby Co. TN

Yesterday, among the thousands of scaup at TVA Lake, I found and
photographed a female Lesser Scaup with a thin tracking antenna sticking up
from her
back. The bird is part of the tagging efforts by LSU and Missouri at pool
#19 on the Mississippi River. They are still interested in reports of the
birds with the colored bill saddles, as they are still trying to determine
the cause or causes for this species steady decline in numbers.
Unfortunately, the battery of the tracking unit on the bird found yesterday
went dead
last fall.
