Scott County, TN birding 2-11-03 Snow on ground. Sunny am, to cloudy by 10:30 and becoming very windy and cold. Low 40's I found 2 handsome male Canvasback Ducks today at Oneida City Park lake in Scott County, TN. They were on the bank preening showing their gorgeous rust/ white contrast. Also seen today were several species of ducks in farm ponds around the airport road and cattle lots. Am. Wigeon (8) Black Duck Green Winged Teal (1) Mallards (many) 3 Ring-Neck Ducks. Several Turkeys were seen on Coopertown Rd. and also in Big South Fork NRRA . 5 Kestrels were seen in various locations as well as Red-Shoulder Hawk and 8 BLACK VULTURES. I saw no Turkey Vultures today. Other expected winter species were seen, with the highest number being Juncos at 56. The wind had a negative effect today on finding many smaller birds.
