Yesterday and today I've been out looking for early arriving Cerulean Warblers (I realize it is unlikely to find them this early, but I'm expecting they arrive on the breeding grounds earlier than other locations). Below is my list from this morning at Edgar Evans. Highlights from 3/30 and 3/31 birding the environs around the north side of Center Hill Lake (totals combined) were: 19 Loons and one Horned Grebe together 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Broad-winged Hawk 3 Whip-poor-wills 5 Hermit Thrush 8 Blue-headed Vireo 1 Tree Swallow 8 Barn Swallows 4 Roughed-winged Swallow 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers 27 Northern Parula 2 Black-and-white Warbler 10 Yellow-throated Warbler 1 Black-throated Green Melinda Welton Franklin, TN Edgar Evins SP, DeKalb, US-TN Mar 31, 2012 6:50 AM - 10:20 AM Protocol: Traveling 8.0 mile(s) Comments: Overcast, started out low 60s, quite. Along road to visitor center, 2 mile nature trail, along road to far camping area and boat launch, out onto stone spit. Played CERW only once behind visitor center. 41 species Canada Goose 2 Wood Duck 2 Wild Turkey 1 Common Loon 19 All in one group, opposite side of lake from stone spit. At least some in breeding plumage. Call but no songs heard.
