I just had a Clay Colored sparrow at Cherokee Farms in the same place as the
bobolinks were last week. I Couldn't get clear shot with camera. In with
field sparrows, roughly same size. Clear buffy breast, brown streaky crown,
facial pattern of clay colored with dark bordered buffy auricular patch, pale
lores and strong mustache, distinct gray nape, light wing bars. Similar to
ones I have seen numerous times in Texas.
I drove in on southbound 129 towards Alcoa and pulled in to the first place you
can park - the extreme opposite end from the golf course before the large
building. I walked towards the river along the paved path and crossed to the
mowed trails running parallel to the river at the first place you could access
them. At this point there are three mowed trails branching off and I took the
extreme left one (the upper trail). it was to the left in the tall grass with
field sparrows.
