I drove through the Horizon Center in Roane County this morning, curious to see if the Cliff Swallows I saw there two summers ago had returned. They had. I parked briefly and walked onto the small bridge over Poplar Creek and was immediately surrounded by Cliff Swallows... about 50 of them chattering and swooping so near I could almost reach out and touch them. I saw just two nests but could only view a section of one side of the bridge; could be most of the nests are on the other side. The Horizon Center is a mostly unoccupied business park along Oak Ridge Turnpike (Route 95) a short distance from the 58/95 split. Carole Gobert, Knoxville
