Based on a lot of what I have read prior to Congress going on break was that most of these cuts were to redirect money to other programs rather than actually reducing the national debt. For some reason the House is only proposing 9% cuts for the Park Service and Forest Service but 27% for the US Fish and Wildlife Service thus the National Wildlife Refuge System. After two years of cuts and even with the smaller cuts proposed by the president, refuges will have very little operating budget. A 27% cut would be devastating contributing to major declines in habitat quality and loss of staff. Please contact congress about these cuts. I would at least like to know why the huge differences in cuts amongst agencies. Hopefully Scott S. will also pipe in on how some of the other cuts are hurting state programs. http://refugeassociation.org/2013/09/congress-returns-from-long-recess-to-a-long-to-do-list/
