I had only a few minutes to drive through the park at Harlinsdale Farm in
Franklin, TN about 40 minutes ago, and was able to locate the previously
reported LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE near the canoe launch area where there is a
large overgrown gravel pile. However as I left the park on Franklin road
and turned onto Mack Hatcher parkway, an even more surprising (for January)
COMMON NIGHTHAWK flew right in front of my car in broad daylight, only 15
feet or so over traffic. There was no chance at all to safely stop to try
to photograph it, I just had to watch it cross the road and continue on,
traveling west. I'm really hoping it banked left which would take it over
the Harlinsdale farm, as a couple of other birders were there, looking for
the shrike.
