On Friday afternoon (06.08.2012) between 12:30 - 14:05, I birded Cove Lake State Park in Campbell County. I walked the entirety of the paved loop trail and then looked out over the marshy end of the lake at the observation platform. I went to this location in search of the Swainson's Warblers that have been reported by Mike Nelson and others. Despite the afternoon heat and my late start time, I did hear one Swainson's Warbler singing upon getting out of my car at the circle parking lot in the far back. The bird sang for about 10 more minutes but was not heard again after that and was never located visually. Other highlights include at least three singing Wood Thrush and a Brown Thrasher family with a fledged juvenile. Full list appears below.
