On Friday afternoon (06.08.2012) between 12:30 - 14:05, I birded Cove Lake
State Park in Campbell County. I walked the entirety of the paved loop trail
and then looked out over the marshy end of the lake at the observation
platform. I went to this location in search of the Swainson's Warblers that
have been reported by Mike Nelson and others. Despite the afternoon heat and
my late start time, I did hear one Swainson's Warbler singing upon getting
out of my car at the circle parking lot in the far back. The bird sang for
about 10 more minutes but was not heard again after that and was never
located visually. Other highlights include at least three singing Wood
Thrush and a Brown Thrasher family with a fledged juvenile. Full list
appears below.
