[TN-Bird] Re: DU wants Ivory-billed land open for everyone's enjoyment

We should all keep in mind that a big part of the
reason that the area where the Ivory-billed
Woodpeckers were found is protected is due to hunting
advocacy groups like Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited
is responsible for the purchase and protection of many
wetlands and other areas vital to waterfowl. Although
they are a hunting organization (which you may or may
not agree with) they do a great deal for land
conservation and are a strong lobbying agency. I
think TOS and other ornithological organizations
should form alliances with these organizations to
protect land. For instance, I know that the hunting
advocacy groups are also opposed to several of TVA's
proposed land "sell-offs" that many of us oppose
because of the loss of important bird habitat.
