Found today at the corner of S. Bluff Road and Cat Corner Road. As I
turned onto S. Bluff Road, I spotted an all-black hawk perched in a tree
in the NW corner of that intersection, maybe 30 feet up. I immediately
wanted to call it a dark morph Harlan's and went for the camera, but the
bird thought us too close and flew off to the east, where there seemed
to be another dark hawk. So it was a black hawk with white trailing
edges on the underwings, and a whitish tail. Did not get a good look at
the throat to check for white streaking.
Checked the Jolly Landing site for the rough-legged reported earlier
this month, but found only a redtail there. Will check again over the
next couple of days.
