Bells Bend Park Beamon Park Davidson Co., TN 2012 March 21 Phillip Casteel and I went looking for sparrows at Bells Bend Park this morning and had good success. We got nice looks at 2 VESPER SPARROWs along the first cross trail behind the visitor's center. Later as we circled back we also saw a lone HENSLOW'S SPARROW between that first cross trail and the wooden equipment building, the same general area where they have been seen in the past several years. N. BOBWHITEs were calling and 5 of them flushed as we looked at the HENSLOW'S. A flyover EURASIAN-COLLARED DOVE was a nice addition to the morning. We then headed to Beamon Park, looking for the previously reported RED-HEADED WOODPECKER along the Boardwalk trail. This species is not
very common in Davidson County. We quickly spotted an adult RED-HEADED attempting to crack a nut in the fork of a tree. It was an excellent morning of observation, I left for work in a very positive frame of mind.
