[TN-Bird] Davidson County yard Catbirds

When we moved into our house in Nashville-Davidson County in the mid 1980's
the yard was mostly bare--mowed grass and a few trees. Over the years, my
wife and I have replaced the sparse look with lots of native and some non
native vegetation. The grass is mostly gone. We can no longer see our
neighbors due to the thick vegetation that created borders and thickets.
About three years ago I began seeing and hearing a pair of Gray Catbirds in
the yard during breeding season. Not only could I hear them calling, but
early in the morning I could hear and observe singing as well. This has
continued each year since.
This year I have observed a pair of Brown Thrashers as well skulking,
singing, "smacking" in the thickets as well.
I like to think that we now have the right habitat for these two species
and that with suitable vegetation, Catbirds can be yard birds in Davidson
County.
