Yesterday evening, JULY 16, at 7pm, I found two FORSTER'S TERNS in
Nashville at the 7-points recreation area boat ramp to make 3 tern species
in 2 days. (Common and Least the day before).
This morning, July 17, at Snow Bunting Peninsula, a flock of 14
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS dropped in during the rain, along with one
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER. I really expected more to come in, but the larger
storm system moved on to our South.
A little bit later, at the end of Swinging Bridge road, in the pasture on
the right at the end of the road, there were four juvenile LITTLE BLUE
HERONS with a Great Egret. These were at considerable distance - I thought
they would be Cattle Egrets - but through the scope, the body postures,
long necks, and sharp, blue-gray bills made the ID pretty slam dunk. That's
quite a few juvenile birds (We had one two days before at Snow Bunting, as
well), so one has to consider that they might be nesting nearby.
Lastly on the day, in the pasture by Peeler Park, I had two LEAST
SANDPIPERS, among the twenty or so Killdeer and a Great Egret.
