For a split second I thought I was looking at an abnormally colored house
sparrow under my feeder this afternoon. The bird appeared about the same time a
mixed flock of grackles, red-winged blackbirds, and cowbirds showed up. It was
very wary and only stayed for a few minutes. The black bib was fairly dull, but
the yellow breast was bright. There was about 1/2 inch of snow on the ground
with cloudy skies and 30 degrees.
