Chad Smith and I spent a productive day seeing many early arrivals with some
uncommon finds mixed in for spice

Duck River NWR is now loaded with shorebirds, most are on the newly opened area
of flooded fields accessed from the northern end of the wildlife loop (newly
opened gate)
Seen today were numerous Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary and Pectoral
Sandpipers, Wilson's Snipes, and a group of 4 LB Dowitchers in one pond with 6
Dunlin in another. Chad saw A Golden Plovers here yesterday.

At Pace Point, no gulls were seen, the Ruddy Duck raft is still cruising
offshore
A single gull floating offshore turned into a first year Great Black-backed!
On the drive out, a small bird exploded from the roadside just north of the
Bennett's Creek overlook
It appeared to be a small dove with a short tail, dark back, no white in the
tail
We both felt it was most likely a Common Ground-Dove, but the red wings were
not
seen

Moving to Britton Ford, there is a gull roost present that can be seen at a
distance from the south side of the slough near the new under construction
visitors center
This can be accessed by walking across a large field, and contained 6 Laughing
Gulls, several Forster's Terns and a single breeding-plumaged Common Tern, in
addition to the ususal 3 gulls. There are numerous Savannah and Vesper
Sparrows
here

Still 3 A White Pelicans present at the mouth of Big Sandy with numerous
distant
ducks

Another large congregation of gulls was seen at Little Eagle Creek, both
Forster's and Common Terns and Laughing Gulls here also
One A Golden Plover seen on the flats

The gull roost at the island off Paris Landing was loaded with birds, best was
the same? adult Lesser Black-backed seen last week

Also in various areas were newly arrived Cliff Swallows, WE Vireos, a raft of 6
RB Mergansers, etc
