TN-birders, Dollyann and I met Mike Nelson at Eagle Bend fish hatchery in Anderson County (on the east side of the city of Clinton) today about 1:40pm to see what the rains had brought in or kept down. Although the brunt of the rain had gone through, it misted most of the time we were there. Following is most of what we saw there today. I won't list the more common birds like Mallard, Blue Jay, etc. Blue-winged Teal - about 14 or so. These have been there for a few weeks now. Northern Pintail - 3 females continue to hang around with the Mallards. Green-winged Teal - 10 today, up from 4-5 recently. Lesser Scaup - 1 female. This is the first one for this winter season we've seen. Pied-billed Grebe - 2 Red-tailed Hawk - 2 American Coot - 2 Killdeer - 15+ Spotted Sandpiper - 1 Greater Yellowlegs - 1, calling Least Sandpiper - 3 DUNLIN - 3, photographed in the southern end of the uppermost pond. My first record here since 2003. Chimney Swift - 100+ Tree Swallow - 75+ Barn Swallow - 2 Palm Warbler - 7+ Savannah Sparrow - 5+; first ones we've seen here this fall. After we left, Mike had a few more birds, but we'll let him tell about that.
