At sunrise this morning at my house in Smyrna, Rutherford co, I had at least 19
common loons flying due south. They were quite low, maybe 200-250 feet high,
with a group of 10 flying right over the house. It was quite obvious what they
were before I grabbed binoculars and got some nice looks as they zipped by.
What a great yard bird!

Between the nice sunrise and the abundance of birds flying around (lots of
robins and waxwings moving around), it was a great morning. I guess I'll be
outside before sunrise tomorrow to see what's happening. Maybe, just maybe, a
Pine Siskin or Purple Finch will fly over and make its presence known.

Good birding,
Scott Somershoe
